Leona is a proud Aboriginal woman and descendant of the Woopaburra people of Great Keppel Island and the Kuku Yalanji people of Far North Queensland. Leona is a mother, grandmother registered midwife and artist. Leona is passionate about supporting the recruitment and retention of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander midwifery workforce to increase the health and well-being of our women, children and communities. Leona is a board member of the Rhodanthe Lipsett Indigenous Midwifery Charitable Fund. The fund aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to become midwives and for midwives to undertake professional development opportunities to remain in the profession.
