Speakers

Lynnelle Moran

As a midwife, Lynnelle has worked in multiple practice settings and models of care, most recently as part of a Midwifery Group Practice providing both hospital and home birth midwifery care. She is passionate about working in genuine partnership with birthing women & people to provide care that reflects their individual hopes and needs. Lynnelle is a strong advocate for the midwifery profession, and those within it. In 2016, after witnessing the impacts of working in a fractured system, Lynnelle formed the VaJournal Club, a space for midwives to find connection & community. Based in Naarm, Melbourne, the VaJournal Club brings together midwives from a variety of practice settings to discuss and debate emerging midwifery research, share knowledge and experiences, seek positive solutions and explore ways to individually and collectively reclaim midwifery. The community is growing with chapters starting in various states around Australia and in an online setting. Observing the broad reaching impacts of this grass roots initiative, Lynnelle was driven to examine the phenomenon further and is currently undertaking a PhD to explore the impact of professional connections and relationships on midwives' wellbeing and career sustainability. Lynnelle is currently a midwifery lecturer at Australian Catholic University where she supports midwifery students on their journey towards this extraordinary profession.

Kath Brundell

Kath Brundell is a midwife and academic with a particular professional interest in rural, regional and remote care, and whose experience ranges across tertiary to remote settings in a variety of models of care. Kath has wide ranging experience in pre-registration midwifery curriculum development, and she currently sits as the Course Coordinator for the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery at Federation University. Kath also maintains her clinical currency and through these experiences she recognised consistent closure of maternity services in Victoria, and pressure felt by maternity service staff at point of care. This led to her now completed PhD journey to consider influences on sustainability of maternity services in rural Victoria.
