In the May 2024-25 Budget, the Government committed $3.5 million over four years (and $0.4 million per year ongoing) to expand the Midwife Professional Indemnity Scheme. This expansion will include professional indemnity insurance cover for privately practising midwives providing low risk homebirths.
The Australian College of Midwives is seeking your input further to the Department of Health and Aged Care’s consultation on the proposed criteria for low-risk homebirth for the purposes of professional indemnity insurance for privately practicing midwives.
