Kate is a clinical midwife consultant and sexual and reproductive health clinician. She has 10 years experience across the private and public health systems and coordinates the Family Planning Clinic at Northern Health. Kate is passionate about reproductive justice, healthcare equity, and supporting midwives to work to their full scope of practice – including in the provision of contraception and abortion care. Her research centres on patient experience of, and access to, abortion in Melbourne’s northern metropolitan region and designing innovative models to increase access to abortion for vulnerable populations.
Kylie Johnston
Kylie (she/her) is a midwife based in Naarm (Melbourne) working in sexual and reproductive health and community midwifery. She has a background in health promotion and public health and has worked in both hospital and community settings. Her current work focuses on abortion care, cervical screening and sexual health assessments and screening, and supporting pregnant people with complex social needs during their pregnancy and the postnatal period. She is passionate about a future for midwives that would enable them to work to their full scope of practice within public community health models.
