This free panel will be hosted by ACM Chief Midwife, Alison Weatherstone and feature Panelists Chelsea Anderson, Katy Hunt, Justine van der Watt and Kaitlyn Sandona.

Chelsea Anderson

Chelsea Anderson is the Clinical Midwife Consultant for Far West Local Health District and is based in Broken Hill, NSW. Chelsea holds a Bachelor of Midwifery from the University of South Australia, Graduate Certificate in Midwifery from Flinders University and a Graduate Certificate in Special Care of the Newborn from the University of Tasmania. Chelsea is passionate about rural midwifery care and supporting midwives to work to their full scope of practice. Chelsea promotes evidence based best practice through policy development, clinical teaching and midwifery leadership. Chelsea has coordinated 2 successful BFHI reaccreditations and is proud of the care and skills midwives use to promote, support and protect breastfeeding and infant feeding practices in Broken Hill.

Katy Hunt

Clinical Midwifery Consultant, International Board Certified Lactation consultant (IBCLC) Royal Hospital for Women
Katy is adamant that she is a midwife first and foremost, working on postnatal ward since 2001. Learning from Joy Heads CNC (Lactation), OAM and pioneer and expert in the Lactation Community, Katy has taken over as the lead clinician for Lactation Services at RHW and cares for and supports new mothers with their breastfeeding goals.

IBCLC certified since 2008 as well as first-hand experience with her own 2 boys. Katy presents weekly breastfeeding classes to pregnant women and new parents and can be found either talking, teaching or observing breastfeeding to women and staff. Lactation Services has been instrumental in Implementing a robust study day incorporating the essential WHO Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding which has reinvigorated the learning and motivation of all clinicians across RHW. The role includes facilitation and preparation for BFHI recertification. RHW was reaccredited in June 2023. RHW is now the longest standing BFHI accredited hospital with an outstanding 28years of accreditation in NSW.

Justine van der Watt

Director or Professional Advocacy & Support of LCANZ Justine is a mother, Registered Nurse, Midwife, and IBCLC living in Perth, Western Australia. She has worked in tertiary NICUs in Perth and the UK since 2007 and in various maternity settings since graduating as a midwife in 2012. She has worked in private practice as an IBCLC since 2018 and as a midwife since June 2019. After struggling with breastfeeding herself, despite being a midwife and working NICU, she is passionate about helping other parents reach their breastfeeding goals. She is also an avid traveler, having traveled to over 80 countries and has done work experience placements as a nurse and midwife in Ghana and Sri Lanka.

Kaitlyn Sandona
