From the Gippsland Branch

Hello and welcome to the Gippsland Branch web-page!

Our branch was formally recognised in 2016, though prior to that we were a sub-branch of the Victorian branch. Within Gippsland midwifery care is provided through 8 public hospitals and 2 privately practising midwives.

Our greatest strength as a branch is that we are primarily a branch of grassroots, clinical midwives.

The Gippsland branch wishes to support not only the midwives of our regions but the profession generally. We recognise that in a rural area we need to collaborate with one another so that we can improve the care we provide and the options available to the women of our communities.

Throughout the year we offer a number of scholarships and awards. Three Education scholarships are offered yearly. We conduct the Gippsland Midwife of the Year Awards to coincide with IDM. In recognising that we have a major role to support the midwives of the future we present an award to a graduate from the Gippsland Midwifery courses.

Join our meetings!

When?

  • We meet 4 times a year – rotating the locations to maximise participation. The meetings start at 6.30 pm and always involve food, a guest speaker and opportunities to network. In addition we hold two other events. These generally have an educative component, though we have been known to hold celebratory functions, especially on International Day of the Midwife.
