This free webinar will be facilitated by ACM President Joanne Gray and presented by Petrina Halloran.

Following an extensive review process, the NMBA’s Safety and quality guidelines for privately practising midwives have been updated and will come into effect on 1 July 2023. This webinar will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the updates to the Guidelines and a refresh on your regulatory obligations when practising as a private midwife in Australia. This will include information on:

  • who must comply the Guidelines including information for midwives who practise across social media
  • how each of the eight requirements have been updated and what this means for your practice 
  • the exemption from holding professional indemnity insurance for midwives providing homebirth services 
  • professional indemnity insurance requirements for midwives who practise as a second health practitioner
  • auditing of private practise midwives 

Presenter

Petrina Halloran

Petrina Halloran is the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency Policy Manager for the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. In this role she develops the policies, standard and guidelines for the regulation of nurses and midwives. Petrina has held a number of senior management and policy roles over the past 15 years and has previously worked for the Department of Human Services Nurse Policy Branch and the Nurses Board of Victoria.

Petrina held an executive management role at the Nurses Board of Victoria and has extensive experience in the regulation of nurses and midwives at both a state based and National level.

Prior to moving in the exciting world of policy Petrina was a Nurse Unit Manager at a large public hospital in Melbourne.
