ACT Branch

ACM ACT Branch offers scholarships for up to $1000 to provide funding for professional development activities e.g., course, conference, research study or study tour which will support a branch member in their continuing professional development and directly or indirectly, improve midwifery care for women and their children.

The ACM (ACT) Rhodanthe Lipsett Award ($1000) is awarded to a midwife, or group of midwives, in recognition of their contribution to midwifery and birthing families.

Gippsland Branch

The Gippsland Branch scholarships aim to provide midwives and midwifery students of the ACM who practice in Gippsland with financial assistance to attend conferences or continuing education events. Scholarships are available for up to $500 for full members or $250 for student members.

NSW Branch

The ACM NSW branch awards scholarships up to the value of $1,000.00 each year, given in memory of Margaret Lambert.  The purpose of the scholarship is to provide midwives and midwifery students of NSW Branch with assistance to attend conferences, workshops or short courses.

ACM NSW Branch has established the Pat Brodie scholarship (up to $5000) to provide members with financial assistance to undertake research in relation to midwifery and maternity services.

NB. This does not include support for conference attendance or presentation.

NB. Applications for the Pat Brodie Scholarship must include a full research proposal and approval from a relevant ethics committee.

This will include:
1. A detailed proposal including the following:
       a. co-researchers
       b. objectives
       c. method
       d. proposed schedule
       e. estimated budget and justification for the budget
2. The name and address of two nominated referees to support the proposal.
3. The name of organisation where the research will be undertaken and evidence of ethics approval from the organisation. If ethics approval is not available at time of application, it must be provided before monies will be released.
4. Supporting evidence of the value of the research to midwifery and maternity services provision.

NT Branch

The Northern Territory Branch scholarships (up to $500) aim to provide midwives and midwifery students of the ACM who practice in NT with financial assistance to attend conferences or continuing education events.

The QLD Branch scholarships (up to $750) are to provide funding for professional development activities (e.g. course, conference, research study, study tour)

SA Branch

ACM SA Branch offers the Fiona Kemp Scholarship (up to $500) to our full, graduate and/or student members to advance the professional profile of midwifery by aiding midwives in the undertaking of midwifery research and/or assisting midwives to attend and/or participate in national or international conferences.

TAS Branch

The Tasmania Branch offers National Conference Scholarships (up to $500) to provide midwives and midwifery students members of ACM who practice in Tasmania with financial assistance to attend the 2024 ACM National Conference in Melbourne.

Townsville  Branch

The Townsville Branch scholarships aim to provide midwives and midwifery students of the ACM who practice in the Townsville region with financial assistance to attend conferences or continuing education events. Scholarships are available for up to $1000.

VIC Branch

In 2009 Margaret Mabbitt was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for service to nursing as a midwife, and to the Royal Women's Hospital. In naming this scholarship after her we honour her commitment and contribution to the Australian Midwifery Community and the families we care for. Scholarship is for up to $2000.

 

Submission must address: ‘How will your participation in this education program impact on your practice as a midwife?'

In 1985 Margaret Peters was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for services to nursing, particularly midwifery education and practice. In naming this scholarship after her we honour her leadership in the Australian Midwifery Community and the wider community. Scholarship is for up to $2000.

The VIC Undergraduate scholarship (up to $250) is to offer a range of funding opportunities for the preparation for practice of undergraduate midwives.

WA Branch

ACM WA Branch offers the Sister Francesca Scholarship (up to $500) to provide a midwife who practices in WA with financial assistance to attend any conference which could enhance their midwifery practice.

Provision of a scholarship

  • ACM cannot provide advice to scholarship recipients about any financial or taxation implications for individuals but may inform them about income tax liability and recommend they consult the Australian Taxation Office.
  • It is the responsibility of scholarship recipients to check the implications for income tax liability payments prior to accepting a scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients must enter into a contract with the ACM and agree to comply with the all terms and conditions of the scholarship.
  • Scholarship funds awarded may only be used for expenses incurred after the scholarship has been allocated; no retrospective or backdated expenses are permitted
  • Recipients who fail to comply with their contract will be required to return their scholarship funding no later than 60 days after the date on which their scholarship report was due (being three months after the expected completion of the study/event/research), unless they can demonstrate extenuating circumstances to the CEO.
  • Recipients who participate in the event/study/research for which the scholarship was awarded, but do not submit a scholarship report or article for Australian Midwifery News, will be required to return 10% of the scholarship to ACM within 60 days of the date on which it was due.
  • Recipients who utilise their funding but do not comply with the terms and conditions of the scholarship may be ineligible to apply for future ACM scholarships.
