ACM has partnered with GynZone on Suturing Workshops pre and post National Conference. Following on from their Level 1 Perineal Repair Workshops, this session will focus on the continuous suture method (NICE guideline).
Requirement: all participants must have completed GynZone's suturing course on Level 1 perineal repair before attending this course. There are two sessions scheduled on Monday 11 September. Please book in here for Level 1.
Workshop content
Diagnosing perineal trauma according to international classification systems
- Classification: Birth lacerations of 2nd degree including perineal muscles We will use photos and clinical videos from GynZone to show variations in practice
Suturing vaginal mucosa
- Continuous sutures: visible and non-locking technique to ensure haemostasis
Alignment of perineal muscles
- Adapting the superficial perineal muscles end-to-end with cont. suture method
Supporting subcutaneous tissue and perineal skin
- Continuous stiches just below the perineal skin
- Avoiding stitches through the perineal skin can reduce pain and discomfort
Suture materials, needles, and instruments
- Suture materials: Quickly and standard absorbable, multifilament sutures
- Instruments for surgical repair: ergonomics, safety and good visualisation

Lots of hands-on experience in this workshop. Participants have the option to practice on various medical models. Training models are provided by Vulva Enterprise.
