FARE works on evidence-informed policies and programs that will help achieve an Australia free from alcohol harms. Through our health programs we provide honest, accurate information to Australians to help them reduce their drinking and minimise alcohol harm in their lives and communities. Every Moment Matters National Campaign has been Developed by FARE and endorsed and funded by the Australian Government - It is Australia’s first national awareness campaign on alcohol and pregnancy, which share the latest evidence-based information about the risks of alcohol use during pregnancy and the importance of safe breastfeeding practices.

Presenters

Deb Lawson

Deb Lawson started her nursing career in 1982 and qualified as a Midwife in 1987 and Child Health Nurse in 2008. Deb has since worked in acute hospital, community health and Aboriginal health settings, and joined the AOD workforce in 2018. She is the Clinical Midwife Consultant and Clinical Lead for Newcastle's Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service. SUPPS is a dual AOD and parenting programme. Clinicians focus on family strengths and use a trauma-informed approach to address the risks associated with substance use in pregnancy and parenting, improve health outcomes and family functioning, and better protect children at risk.

Nicole Hewlett

Nicole Hewlett is a proud Palawa woman and holds two positions at The University of Queensland, one in the First Nations Cancer & Research Wellbeing team and the other in the Child Health Research Centre. Nicole is currently undertaking a PhD focusing on the development and implementation of Australia’s first FASD Indigenous Framework. Previously, Nicole was a member of the NHMRC Alcohol Workshop group, appointed to update the NHMRC Australian Guidelines to reduce health risks from drinking alcohol.
